Frequently Asked Questions

  • We are proud to rehearse on the campus of Brenau University in Gainesville, GA.

  • Since many of our members have family, work, and other responsibilities, we wanted this choir to be accessible to them. We rehearse one weekend, during the summer, and then have concerts spread throughout the August - May concert season.

  • You will meet with the conductors, Ashley and Emily. They will introduce themselves, tell you the mission of Lux, might have some questions for you, and will give you a chance to ask any questions you might have as well. You will then sing your part with a track on a prepared example. After that, you will be given an excerpt from a song and asked to sing your part, at sight, with a track where the other parts are being sung. And that’s it! Everyone is nervous about the sight-singing portion of the audition, but we want to see your resilience and how you learn music quickly.

  • Yes. All the music will be learned by the choir members on their own, so we can spend rehearsal time polishing the music for performances.

  • Since we only rehearse to put the music together during the summer, we stick with the same concert music throughout the concert year. It changes with the next concert year.

  • Other than purchasing your own music, YES! We hope to get to the point, in the future, where we can purchase music for our singers through donations to our ensemble. If you’d like to donate, please contact us.

  • We are open to all singers who can sing in a treble range. This includes nonbinary, transgender, and those who might not consider themselves “female” or “women.” As long as you can sing in a treble range, you may join!

  • Because this group requires travel for the singers, we ask that the singers be at least 18 years old. We always welcome audience members of any age, though!
